Moving Across the Country: The Benefits of Backloading

When I was offered a new job in Perth, I had to relocate my life from Brisbane. I had no idea how I was going to ship all my things across Australia. I considered hiring a van and doing it myself, but driving thousands of miles and then starting work when I arrived just didn't appeal to me. I looked into using a moving company, but I was put off a little by the cost. It was then my friend mentioned backloading. Backloading allowed me to haul my things across the country on trucks which were returning from another job. This drastically reduced the cost. I am now settled in Perth, but I wanted to start this blog to help others who need to store or move the things they own.

Best Practices When Packing Boxes for a House Move

One of the biggest challenges when you are planning to move home is ensuring that all your household items arrive at the new residence in good condition and can be unpacked quickly. Household valuables can easily get damaged, lost or mixed up if they are not correctly packed in their boxes.

Follow these packing tips to make sure your household possessions are moved to your new home safely and they can be unpacked as promptly as possible.

Label and take stock of each box.

Make sure each box is well-labelled to indicate what room it is intended for. The labelling should also include a description of the contents of each box. This will help movers identify the contents of your packing boxes so that they can handle boxes with care, where necessary. The movers will also know where to place every box in your new home.

The best way to label packed boxes is by writing on their sides with a marker. The labelling shouldn't be done on top of the boxes because it won't be seen when boxes are stacked up together.

Numbering all packed boxes and writing down an inventory list in an exercise book can help you keep count of how many boxes you have packed so as to ensure nothing is missing when you unpack.

Do not leave any empty gaps in the packing boxes.

Items in loosely packed boxes get to move a lot when the boxes are being carried around by your movers or behind the moving truck. By the time these boxes reach your new home, their contents may have suffered a great deal of damaged. Make sure that you fill any gaps left at the top of packed boxes with soft toys, clothing, towels or any other soft things to prevent damage that may be caused by movement of loosely packed items.

Aside from that, you should not pack a box until it can't close because of items sticking out at the top. Ensure all packed boxes can close and seal the top and bottom seams with tape.

Pack different rooms separately.

Pack household items from different rooms separately, starting with those in infrequently needed rooms. Naturally, you should pack up seasonal household items like Christmas decorations first before you can pay attention to items such as kitchenware used on a daily basis. This will help you avoid mixing up items from different rooms, making it a lot easier to unpack and arrange household items at the new place.

The above-elaborated tips will go a long way in ensuring that the contents of your packed boxes come out in the same condition they were in when being put inside the boxes. They will also make sure that you have an easy time unpacking once the boxes arrive at your new home. For more information on packaging solutions, contact a packaging company in your area..
