Moving Across the Country: The Benefits of Backloading

When I was offered a new job in Perth, I had to relocate my life from Brisbane. I had no idea how I was going to ship all my things across Australia. I considered hiring a van and doing it myself, but driving thousands of miles and then starting work when I arrived just didn't appeal to me. I looked into using a moving company, but I was put off a little by the cost. It was then my friend mentioned backloading. Backloading allowed me to haul my things across the country on trucks which were returning from another job. This drastically reduced the cost. I am now settled in Perth, but I wanted to start this blog to help others who need to store or move the things they own.

Top Tips When Choosing A Furniture Removalist

A common assumption made by people who need removal services is that all companies provide the same service. As such, they do not take time to examine the services and level of professionalism each removal company provides. So, what should you look for in a removal company? Below are some tips.

Check Reviews

Internet reviews can help you determine whether you can trust a company to handle the furniture removals. Look for a company that has mostly positive reviews on social media.

Customer Service

Below are a few tips to help you examine the company's level of customer service:

Check the accepted modes of communication. Most companies will have an office contact and email address. Besides, they will indicate the working hours. Typically, they should respond to your inquiry in a few hours.

The company's staff should be courteous to customers.

Read the contract to know what liabilities the company accepts. Avoid companies that do not accept any risks. Work with one that has a removals insurance cover.

Check the dispute resolution mechanism. For instance, if you realised that the company overcharged you, how long would they take to settle the dispute?

Examine the cancellation policy. For example, will the company refund your deposit If external factors force you to cancel or postpone the move?

Level of Organisation

The company should exhibit a high degree of organisation. For instance, they must conduct a house inspection to determine the size and number of items you intend to transport. It will help them choose a suitable removals truck. The inspection will also enable the removalist to identify challenges such as narrow stairways and elevators.

The removalist should be time-conscious. He or she should inform you of the time that the removals team will arrive, how many people you should expect and any preparations you should make. For instance, you should secure parking for the removals truck, pack essential items such as light snacks and toiletries and organise transport for valuable items such as jewellery.

Extra Services

You may require extra services such as cleaning, assembling furniture and organising items in your new premises. Some removalists will include this service in the standard charge, while others will charge a slight fee. You may also need temporary or permanent storage for items you no longer need. If this is the case, work with a removalist who offers to transport your items to a storage facility, provides portable storage containers or full-service storage.

The removalist should provide a comprehensive quote that includes any extra charges you will incur. Remember to ask for a discount.
